In this photograph taken by Ian Logan in the 1980s, Southern Pacific’s EMD SD70 locomotive 8491 hauls cargo through the New Mexico desert, aided by a second locomotive. The Southern Pacific’s distinctive black and red ‘Bloody Nose’ livery instantly identifies the train.
