In a colour photograph by Marian Polytsiak the OOCL Gdynia is brightly lit by arc lights as it waits for its stacks of containers to be unloaded in port.

Unload Our Books!

Dockers, please unload our books! On board the OOCL Gdynia is a container with our autumn title Doors of London inside. The ship has just docked in Felixstowe. We can’t wait to speed the books out into the world.

The black front door of Dennis Severs’ House in Spitalfields contrasts boldly with the red brick of the façade and the terracotta of the shutters.
A gas lantern glows over the door to Dennis Severs’ House in Spitalfields, transporting you back into a past London.

Doors of London has come all the way from Shenzhen, southern China, where it was printed. Because of the war in the Middle East, the OOCL Gdynia has been diverted away from the Suez Canal and round the Cape of Good Hope, so delaying its arrival. Congestion at the Port of Felixstowe has compounded the problem. The ship was due on 20th October but did not dock until lunch time today. This makes it impossible for us publish Doors of London on 28th October as planned.

Once the container is unloaded, our customs clearance agents have to get the books out, pass them through customs, load them on to a lorry and deliver them to our warehouse. Then the warehouse have to check them in, unpack and send them out to the shops. For this process we need to allow three weeks. Regretfully, therefore, we are pushing publication back to 21st November. We are extremely sorry for this delay.
