In this colour photograph taken inside the cab of Union Pacific’s Big Boy 4014 steam locomotive in October 2019, a member of the crew monitors the engineer’s controls. Apart from speedometer, safety control system and radio, all are 1940s technology including the brass boiler water sight glass high up in the centre.
